The Indus Institute of Hospitality & Culinary Arts was established in 1998. It is India’s first and only hospitality training institute specifically catering to training for potential cruise line employment and can justifiably boast of a 99 % placement record. The institute started off in Gurugram (earlier Gurgaon), as India’s first culinary training institute for continental cuisine. It then moved to Bangalore in 2003 till finally establishing itself in Chennai since 2010. All the moves were strategic – in line with its expansion and growth, whence Chennai offered the space to establish all the departments that matched the courses offered.
The Indus Institute offers cruise line training in close to real situations and remains focused in providing hands-on practical courses as well. This helps to upgrade the technical skills of not only cooks and chefs to meet the recruitment criteria for Kitchen staff on cruise ships, but also assists potential recruits for Bakery & Patisserie, Cabin Stewarding, Galley Stewarding and F&B Service departments on board.
The Indus Institute offers 12-month Diploma courses in culinary arts, bakery & confectionery aimed at school leavers, certified by the Bharat Seva Samaj, a government initiative to provide vocation education to India’s youth.
